Ever hear the one about an english lass, an american fella and a fluffy dog walking into a bar?

well you have now.

this is the true story of we three and our travels around the world, meeting dogs, drinking wine and loving life.

Welcome to Tails of Wine

Welcome to Tails of Wine

You made it! Come on in, thanks so much for showing up. Tea? I'll get myself one while we're at it.

So you may be asking yourself why you’re here. You heard about this little blog, you showed up and now what? It’s a fair question. Thing is, I’m not too sure how things are going to pan out.

It all seemed such a good idea at the time. Travel the world, drink amazing wine, meet wonderful people and (more importantly) cuddle dogs. What could possibly be better than that? A blog to document it all called Tails of Wine, that’s what. Jackpot!

Then one day, you sit down to start the thing and suddenly it all seems rather daunting.

Sure, we breezed through the hard bits. Quit my job after 20 years, no big deal right? Figured out a way to get your slightly addled writer here, plus a little labradoodle and a 6ft 3”American to Europe without anyone needing to sleep in the cargo hold of a plane. Queen Mary here we come! We set sail on December 8th across the Atlantic from New York to Southampton.

The Queen Mary in all her glory, oh what a beauty!

We've off loaded most of our possessions, sold the house, plan to sell both cars. We've even managed to plan a 6 month, 43 stop adventure through Europe, dog and all, no problemo.

But writing about it? Oh boy.

And yet, here we are. About to embark on the adventure of a lifetime together - me, The American, The Wonderdog, and all of you. I’m so glad you’re tagging along, there’s something reassuring about imagining you all following along in the car behind us, staying at the Airbnb next door and sharing some wine in the kitchen of an evening.

So what’s it's all about? Why should you tear yourself away from your very important work, the Daily Mail’s side bar of shame or the rabbit hole of Twitter to come and visit this little corner of the web?

Well, we may not match those folks for salacious gossip, but we were rather hoping you'd come in and potter about when you need a little quiet time. Maybe flick through some pictures, read a few stories, who knows, you might get some holiday ideas.

Perhaps you might pick up a bottle of wine that we’ve tried and liked along the way. We'll be cooking some locally loved recipes as we go, maybe you could dust off your pots and pans and take a spin in the kitchen with us. Or if you’re a dog lover, they'll be plenty for you to smile about. Shadow is in charge of canine content and she fancies herself as quite the dog blogger.

Shadow reviewing the latest dog blog.

We’ll be learning as we go, so please be patient with us. Feel free to comment below or hit the little envelope in the top right corner to send us an email with suggestions or advice. Nice words only, if you please. If you’d rather rant or be mean, you’ll need to make your way to Twitter. We’re all friends here.

So with that, you’ve made it through the end of our first post. It was smashing to see you.

Wander back in any time. Just don’t forget your cuppa tea (and a sneaky biscuit, of course).
